Accessories
French Style is a culmination of worn and weathered
belongings lovingly collected and appreciated for their perfect imperfections.
They reflect an appreciation for both the fine and the mundane. This
definition of French style is apparent everywhere you look in Ooh La
Lolly.
Accessories and furniture are found objects that have been recovered,
repainted or repurposed and are so lovingly redone that I often ask a
prospective buyer pointed questions in order to make sure that each piece
is going to a "good
home". There's an investment of the heart that is impossible to find in
a mass produced object.
Since I spend most of my time in the shop, it often feels as though I'm selling
my personal belongings - quite often there's an attachment that has been formed.
However, entre nous, nothing makes me happier than finding a cast off at a thrift
store, having a vision of what that piece could be, making it happen and then
finding just the right person who appreciates the process and the end result.
Adding to the ambience of OLL are pieces that I have carefully chosen from local
vendors.
- James Thomas of Summerton, SC, aka "The Can Man",
supplies rusty metal items.
- Patti Allison brings things she collects
on her scavenging trips.
- Debra Ducworth is a "collector" too!
- Luci Pidgeon creates the most amazing shadowboxes whcih
contain fabulous mounted butterflies and otehr exotic insects.
I choose
the artwork and pick the frames that the artwork goes into which is
then displayed on the exposed brick walls and I find the furniture
which is then repainted or recovered (LOCALLY - I believe in doing
business with your neighbors). AND, if you're ever in the market for
a rooster or chicken (on a rug, on a pitcher, on a plate or as a flowerpot),
Ooh La Lolly is THE place to go.
